Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau
Barcelona
Descripción Datos de contacto

Designed by the great architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the Sant Pau Modernista Site is on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. It is a veritable jewel of Catalan Modernisme and holds an important place in Barcelona’s heritage and culture. The exceptional artistic beauty and architectural design of this site make it truly unique. After housing Sant Pau Hospital for over seventy years (1930-2009), it has now become a centre of knowledge and innovation and an outstanding example of Modernista architecture sheltering a great wealth of sculpture and a splendid set of colourful mosaics. Planned at the close of the 19th century, the site forms a city within the city. Its carefully arranged low-rise buildings have undergone a very strict rehabilitation process that has restored their striking original appearance. Spread throughout the site, they are surrounded by green spaces and connected by a network of underground galleries extending for over one kilometre. Today the Sant Pau Modernista Site combines culture and innovation, accommodating several prominent institutions in the fields of sustainability, education and health. A programme of tours allows visitors to discover this once hidden treasure of the city.
