The music and lively atmosphere of the Ibizan night attract thousands of young people every summer.
Ibiza exerts a powerful force of fascination amongst nightlife enthusiasts. The legend of the island of freedom, nudism, flower power and the protest years of the ‘70s has spread with new prisms and ingredients: the best discotheques, the most famous DJs, celebrities and an atmosphere of electronic music and partying the whole time, especially in the south of the island.
The big discotheques attract thousands of people every night in summer. Ibiza’s tourist industry depends to a large extent on young clubbers, whose presence is evident in areas like Platja d’en Bossa and Sant Antoni. By contrast, the most relaxed version of electronic music (chill out, deep house and ‘ambient’ music in general) is the backdrop for many glamorous bars and beach clubs in different places around the island.
To penetrate the colour of the Ibizan nightlife scene, you can walk round the streets of the town’s harbour, where dozens of small bars, shops and restaurants are found in a hubbub that intensifies as the night goes on. Another option is the lively Plaza del Parque, next to Vara de Rey, in the proximity of which is the Pereyra, where jazz performances take place every night.
If you are in Sant Antoni, after contemplating the sunset at Ses Variades, where the famous Café del Mar is, you will immediately see that the range of music bars, terraces and pubs on offer in the village streets incalculable, and they spread around the bay of Portmany.
If all this hustle and bustle is not what you’re into, Santa Eulària, with its popular pedestrian street full of restaurants (C/ Sant Vicent) and its pretty marina, is the ideal village in which to discover the slower pace of the island’s north. In Sant Josep, you will find it easy to discover some very lively bars and restaurants on summer nights.
