Es Baluard is the largest space for the conservation and dissemination of contemporary art on the Balearic Islands. It is located in a building with simple, clean lines that integrates into the profile of a bastion of the Renaissance wall, and its upper terrace affords the very best views of the neighbourhood of Sant Pere and the cathedral. It has a backdrop of over 600 modern and contemporary artworks dating from the late 19th century to the present day. A visit to the museum comprises a route through the movements that converged on the islands in the past and present, with names like Santiago Rusiñol, Joan Miró, Picasso, Antoni Tàpies or Erwin Bechtold, and works by recognised contemporary artists such as Miquel Barceló. It also includes the diversity of present-day art languages and organises excellent temporary exhibitions and events.
