Museu Frederic Marès
Barcelona
Descripción Datos de contacto

This unusual museum shelters the works and collections of its founder, the sculptor Frederic Marès (1893-1991), who donated them to the City of Barcelona in 1946. It is located in part of the old Royal Palace of the Counts of Barcelona, in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. On display is a large collection of Spanish sculpture dating from ancient times to the 19th century, with a predominance of religious polychrome wood carvings, and part of the sculptural oeuvre of Marès himself. In the Collector’s Room one finds thousands of interesting objects dating mainly from the 19th century, including fans, pipes, clocks, jewels, photographs, toys, keys, apothecary jars and reliquaries, displayed in an intimate atmosphere evoking Marès’s world.
